“ … The perfect location for a family oriented surf holiday …”
About Kies Villas
Just a short trip eastward across the Lombok Strait from Bali, you’ll find the Island of Lombok. While in such close proximity to its more famous neigbour, Lombok offers a totally different experience for its visitors.
With far less hustle, bustle and western influence, Lombok is said to offer what a trip to Bali did forty years ago – an attractive prospect for many travellers.
Lombok is also home to one of the best waves in Indonesia, if not the world. Desert Point or Bangko Bangko as the locals know it, is a loooong and supremely hollow left that is responsible for more tube-time than perhaps any other wave in the archipelago. But be warned, it is also known for removing more skin from over-confident surfers than any other wave in the archipelago.
But never fear, if zippering left tubes over inches of water aren’t your thing, Lombok also has perhaps the largest variety of waves for intermediate and learner surfers in Indonesia. So whatever your skill level, Lombok and Kies Villas has you covered.
In fact, guests at Kies Villas are assigned their own dedicated surf guide, and their mission in life is to make sure that no matter what your ability level, you’re at the right wave at the right time.
This, combined with the luxurious accommodation and facilities, makes Kies Villas the perfect location for a family oriented surf holiday.

The majority of waves you’ll be surfing on Lombok rely on the wind and swell patterns found during the traditional Indo surf season (Dry Season), which runs from April to October. However, if that window is outside of your grasp, or you want to avoid peak season crowds, there are waves on Lombok that remain surfable year round.
As mentioned earlier, the real jewel of Lombok is Desert Point. Desert Point has been part of surfing folklore ever since its discovery, and it’s with good reason. Australian Jim Banks, who was one of the first to surf the wave in the mid 80s, credits the mythical left with completely shifting what he thought possible, both in perfection and what he thought was rideable.
Since then, it has been added to the bucket list of surfers worldwide, including the planet’s best tube-riders, all looking to test their limits.
Unfortunately, a wave as popular as Desert Point is going be crowded, and given its fickle nature, every time it’s on, you can expect to share the lineup with a healthy slice of the global surfing population, each looking for their own piece of perfection.
Lombok isn’t all about Deserts however. It is in fact one of the best places to visit in Indonesia if you’re looking for a more mellow surf vacation.
The South Coast has many super fun set-ups suitable for intermediate and beginner surfers, or even those simply looking to cruise on a fun board or even a longboard.
In addition to this, Kies Villas also assign each guest with their own surf guide, who will make sure you are whisked across the coastline to the wave at the right time, eliminating the guess work of going it alone and ensuring you maximize surfing time on your holiday.
