“Top-notch facilities, hotel-style staterooms and unmatched open-air comfort.”
About Carpe Novo
For most people the Maldives are known as one of the most beautiful and desired holiday destinations on earth. Where gin clear waters harbour abundant marine life that lazily swims amongst vibrant corals. Where beautiful people bathe on bright, white sand beaches at luxury resorts and sip cocktails.
For surfers, it’s all of this, but there’s the added bonus that the 26 atolls that make up the 90,000 square kilometre chain are also home to some of the funnest waves on the planet.
A well-appointed high-end surf charter through the Maldives is the best way to make the most of both these worlds. Not only do you get access to the waves, but there’s also enough luxury involved to keep a non-surfing family happy.
A vessel guaranteed to deliver all this and more is the Carpe Novo. Built in 2016, the Carpe Novo is a whopping 42-metre motor safari yacht featuring luxurious modern appointments, top-notch facilities, hotel-style staterooms and unmatched open-air comfort. A sure bet to deliver you a once in a lifetime surf experience.
Carpe Novo also offers experienced surf guides and operations manager to work alongside our trusted Skipper to get you to the best spots at the best times.
This includes the popular areas of the North Male atolls where big-ticket waves such as Cokes, Chickens, Honkeys, Sultans and Jails reside. The good news is that a charter with Carpe Novo also offers the option to escape to the more remote Central and Southern atolls, where uncrowded lineups and beautiful unspoiled scenery await.
The Carpe Novo also has a second fully crewed Dhoni to access the waves. It can power ahead to surf spots while the mother ship is anchored in a safe vantage point. There is also a 15-foot dinghy to deliver you right into the lineup.

The general surf season in the Maldives is considered as being from about February to November. This is when storms in the southern Indian Ocean send clean swells rolling into the area.
This can further be broken down into three mini seasons. The best winds blow from March – May, while June – August is when you’ll find bigger swells hitting the Maldives. September and October can get big swell, but the winds during this time of year can be unpredictable.
In terms of where you’ll be surfing, Carpe Novo services the entire Maldive chain and gives guests the option of deciding where they’d like to focus their charter. On hand to help you with this decision will be the experienced Carpe Novo surf guides, operations manager and Skipper. Working together, they’ll ensure you’re on course to the best waves available at that particular time. The best part is that you’re on a boat, so it’s not hard to up anchor and keep searching when conditions change.
The North Male Atolls
North Male is the surfing hub of the Maldives and houses the majority of waves you’ll have heard of, including:
Named after a now defunct Jail on the Island. Jails is a right-hander which offers one of the longest rides in the Maldives, and can also dish up multiple tubes.
One of the best waves in the Maldives, Sultans is a right that begins with a behind-the-peak take off into the tube followed by a highly workable wall. It’ll also handle whatever swell the Indian Ocean can throw at it.
A high quality left that breaks off the same island as Sultans. The wave bends and refracts around the island as you ride, generally increasing in size as you do so.
Named after a soft-drink factory located on the Island, Cokes is where you’ll get your barrel quota in the North Male atolls. One of the hollowest waves available, and for experienced surfers only.
A hollow left, Chickens can reward guests with a beautiful tube, however it is known as being highly tide dependent.
The Central Atolls
The advantage of the Central Atolls is the lack of surfers you’ll encounter compared to the northern atolls.
They also offer some of the best waves you’re likely to find in the Maldives and the surrounds, minus the heavy tourism, are nothing short of breathtaking.
There are waves here for all abilities, from shallow reefs and tropical tubes to fun set-ups that welcome some high-performance surfing or even a relaxed fun-board session.
The Central Atolls also offer waves on both the eastern and Western sides of the archipelago, which means that no matter what wind and swell combination, there’s bound to be a spot working somewhere.
The Southern Atolls are the most remote in the Maldives. Here the crowds thin even more and empty lineups await the adventurous. This is the place to be if you want to achieve the sensation of surfing in a pristine untouched paradise.
There are a host of waves on offer, and being the most southern of Atolls, it is more exposed to the power of the Indian Ocean swells that sweep up from the lower latitudes.
This equates to consistent size, but can also be less friendly to beginner and intermediate surfers.
The accommodation on board Carpe Novo is exactly what you’d expect from a luxury charter in the Maldives. In one word … opulent!

Single Suite Cabins
The two single suite cabins are located on the main deck and feature lavish queen size beds, desk, TV connected to central media system, hanging closet, large windows, private ensuite bathroom and shower.

Although surfing is at the top of most guests’ lists, you must remember that you are sailing through one of the most beautiful areas on the planet, so Carpe Novo offers a wide range of activities to help make the most of this fact.
Carpe Novo normally provide one or two dive guides and instructors during surf trips, so swap your surfboard for a scuba tank and take advantage of the abundant marine life that people travel from all over the world to see. In these pristine waters it is not uncommon to see Manta Rays and Whale Sharks.
If you’re not certified to dive there’s no worries. You can still enjoy yourself just as much with a trusty snorkel and mask.
