As a charter with Azalea can pretty much take you wherever you like in the large and varied surfing playground that is the Maldives, let’s take a general look at the best time to go and some of the best waves, which remember, you’ll have at your fingertips.
The overarching surf season in the Maldives is considered a being from February to November. This is when low-pressure systems in the southern Indian Ocean send swells rolling into the region.
This can further be broken down into three mini seasons. The best winds blow during March, April and May. June, July and August are when bigger swells begin hitting the Maldives and while September and October can get big swell, the winds during this time of year are known to become quite variable.
It’s worth noting that you can still pick up some small clean waves outside of this window (November to February), but it is a gamble, and you may end up getting skunked. If having less people in the lineup is a priority over wave quality for you, it may be worth looking at.
Just to get you excited, here are some of the premium waves you’ll have available during your charter.
Jails is named after the now defunct Jail which once operated on the Island off which the wave breaks. A right-hander, when Jails is on it offers one of the longest rides in the Maldives, and can also dish up multiple tubes on the one wave.
Sultans is one of the best waves in the Maldives. A right that begins with a behind-the-peak take off, either straight into the tube or as an entry point to a highly workable wall. It can also offer a second tube section on the inside and handles whatever swell the Indian Ocean can throw at it.
Honkey’s is a high quality left. It breaks off the same island as Sultans, but heading in the opposite direction. Taking off out the back, the wave bends and refracts around the island as you ride, generally increasing in size as you do so, and offering some highly workable walls.
Named after a soft-drink factory located on the Island, Cokes is where you’ll get your barrel quota in the North Male atolls. Shallower than most of the waves, this right is one of the most hollow waves available, and is usually for experienced surfers only.
As you may have guessed, Chickens is named after the Chicken farm on the Island. It is also one of the most challenging waves on offer. A hollow left, Chickens can reward guests with a beautiful tube, however it is known as being highly tide dependent and can also catch you out of position easily.
As you cruise through the calm waters of the Maldives, Azalea’s team of culinary staff will delight your taste buds with international cuisine prepared to the highest standard. You’ll find influences from west to the east in every meal.
Also, don’t forget that if your group has chartered Azalea exclusively, you’ll have the ability to tailor the menu to your own specific tastes.
Azalea also boasts an extensive list of fine wine from around the world. Enjoy a bottle full of character with your meal
As you cruise through the Maldives, we’re sure the extensive list of lineups you’ll be visiting will have your undivided attention, but there are also any number of other activities available to you, or guests you may be travelling with, to keep the entertainment levels riding high.
