Luxurious seclusion in the Maldive’s Southern Atolls!
About Ayada Resort
The luxurious Ayada Maldives is no stranger to high praise, and it was with good reason the resort was listed in Conde Nast Traveller’s exclusive list of the best hotels in the Maldives. It was also voted the Indian Ocean’s leading Villa Resort & Spa at the 2014 World Travel Awards.
Noted for it’s lush gardens, stunning tropical greenery and with genuine five-star Maldivian styling, it’s fair to say that Ayada Maldives defines luxury. But you can get that anywhere in the Maldives, right? Well, while that may be somewhat true, what you can’t get elsewhere is the resorts priceless location. Set in the beautiful and relatively unexplored southern atoll of Gaafu Dhaalu, Ayada offers its visitors true peace and seclusion as a foil to its high-end opulence.
While this sense of seclusion is important for holidaymakers looking to switch off, shift into neutral and bliss out, it’s downright thrilling news for surfers. Crowds aren’t a factor here, and with six high quality waves dotted around the resort, the return on investment in terms of wave count is going to be off the charts at Ayada.
There’s also a set up suitable for every skill level, so whether you’re looking for a mellow ride in a tropical paradise or redlining tubes over shallow reef, there’s a wave waiting for you.
Surfing aside, don’t forget that a trip to the Maldives is really about spoiling both yourself and the family/spouse/partner. So after you’ve had your fix of waves, there’s plenty to get involved with at Ayada.
From world class diving, snorkeling and fishing charters, to the more romantic endeavors of sunset cruises, deserted island picnics and spa pampering sessions, Ayada will ensure every member of your troupe has the experience of a lifetime.

Ayada Maldives’ home atoll of Gaafu Dhaalu is one of the most versatile in the entire archipelago. Here you’ll find a wave in almost any condition, for any skill level. It’s also a swell magnet, sucking in any available swell from all directions.
As previously mentioned, laying in wait around the resort are six world-class waves. And with two three-hour charters available to guests each day, there’s no danger of your thirst for surf going unquenched.
The waves you’ll be surfing are as follows:
Blue Bowls sits a 25-minute boat ride from Ayada. The most versatile and consistent wave at the resort, Blue Bowls is a right hand point-style set up, which wraps smoothly around the point before delivering a series of bowling sections (hence the name). Blue Bowls will keep those on shortboards entertained, but is also mellow enough for funboards and longboards to get out there.
Another benefit of the wave is that it’s one of the rare spots protected from onshore winds, due to being tucked inside the pass between Castaways and Five Islands.
Blue Bowls can be surfed from three to eight feet, but is at its best at four to six with westerly winds in a southeast or southwest swell.
Only 15 minutes in the boat from Ayada Maldives. Five Islands is where you’ll score your barrel fix while staying at Ayada. A right-hander, Five Islands Starts with a deep takeoff, followed by numerous hollow sections, which can combine on a solid southerly swell to offer the longest and cleanest barrels in the Southern Atolls.
Another bonus is that Five Islands can handle the biggest of swells and remains rideable at all stages of the tide. This one is for the serious surfers.
Two ways is the fun park of Ayada Maldives. Located just across the pass from Five Islands, Two Ways offers two incredible waves, a left and right, which peel off in opposite directions from the same point of the island.
Two ways is a good spot for surfers of all abilities, allowing beginners to get amongst it, but also offering super-fun sections for surfers of higher ability to tee-off on.
Two Ways is the go to spot when the southerly facing reefs are blown out or simply out of control, and is at its best during a south swell, north wind combination.
Love Charms is a patch of left-handers that is sure to induce romantic feelings from Ayadas goofy footed visitors. And, like a good lover, the wave is always reliable. It’s always breaking, and in the right conditions can turn on some amazing waves.
Love charms has two distinct moods. On a low tide and smaller swell, the wave divides into two separate sections, but when the swell rises on a high tide, these sections combine to deliver an incredibly long and hollow ride.
You can surf Love Charms at any tide, and it handles pretty much any swell or wind thrown at it, but it’s truly at its best during a south swell, northwest wind combo.
Tiger Stripes is a left about 25 minutes from Ayada Maldives that breaks in a narrow inlet between the islands of Gan and Gadhdoo. The wave gets its name from long channels in the reef, which when viewed from above give the appearance of stripes on a tiger.
Tiger stripes may not offer the hollow tubes of nearby waves, but what it delivers in spades are beautiful walls that encourage high performance surfing. It all begins with a somewhat tricky takeoff, before standing up and gifting a steep wall that stretches out before rounding the corner to an inside bowl, where if you’re lucky, you might sneak a quick tube. The waves somewhat mellow nature also means that surfers of most abilities can get in on the action at Tiger Stripes.
It’s also consistent. So if there is swell you can count on a session here. It works on all tides and any variation of southerly swell, but breaks best during a southeast swell with north winds.
Sitting in the same inlet as Tiger Stripes, Antiques is a peak that offers a fun left and right.
As the name might let on, Antiques is mellower again than its neighbor, but the good news is that it’s just as consistent. This means Antiques is the perfect spot for beginners and intermediate surfers to get their fix.
Like Tiger Stripes, Antiques is rideable at any tide, but is best during larger south swells and northwest winds. It might not be the best wave around, but it’s super fun, and its close proximity to Tiger Stripes makes this little inlet a real treasure.
Ayada Maldives is also aware of the fact that when your business relies on such a pristine and fragile area, it’s important to be respectful of this fact. The resorts efforts to minimize impact and preserve the natural ecosystem led them to be the first recipient of the prestigious Green Star Diamond Award, which recognises and celebrates the intersection of first class luxury with environmental awareness.
Upon arrival at Male International Airport, visitors will be met by Ayada’s airport representatives, who will escort you to the domestic airport lounge while formalities are completed. Visitors will then take a 55-minute domestic flight from Male International Airport to Kaadhedhoo Domestic Airport. Once again you will be met by our Domestic Airport Representative, who will show you to an awaiting speedboat for a 50 minute sea transfer to Ayada Maldives.
