“All the quality of the Maldives, without the crowds.”
Atoll Jade Overview
Here’s one for those seeking a dedicated Maldivian surf charter boat whose sole aim is to deliver guests exotic and remote waves in one of the most beautiful settings on the planet.
Atoll Jade is a luxurious dhoni that offers 10 night charter packages from April to October within the Central Atolls of the Maldives. For those who aren’t well versed in the surfing geography of the archipelago, this part of the chain is on the more remote side of things. This means less people in the water, but even better is the fact that the Central Atolls are jam packed with high-quality waves. In fact, you’ll have your pick from more than twenty known breaks within the charters scope, and that’s not mentioning the waves that are still yet to be ridden. Who knows, you might even pioneer your own spot.
In short, a charter with Atoll Jade is the perfect option for core surfers who are looking for a dedicated surf trip that focuses purely on getting their guests in the best waves possible during their stay.
All this isn’t to say non-surfers aren’t welcome aboard Atoll Jade. In fact they encourage non-surfing partners to join the fun. The boat is luxurious enough to offer a relaxing holiday, and the crew are well trained in delivering an idyllic experience for those who won’t be entering the line-up. Atoll Jade also offers regular dinner parties, karaoke, island excursions, snorkeling tours, SUP tours and much more.
While a charter on Atoll Jade is focused on surfing, they haven’t forgotten that they’re in the Maldives, and as such offer luxurious touches throughout the boat to ensure your time aboard is as comfortable and memorable as possible.
All rooms are fully air-conditioned and all suites offer panoramic views of the pristine Maldivian scenery. There are also three spacious chill out areas on the boat that offer sanctuaries in which to relax, enjoy a drink and take in the passing views. There is also a comfortable TV room and library, while the top deck offers solitude and the chance to gently swing in the hammocks while you check the

Apart from the wave quality, the best part of a charter through the Central Atolls is the lack of surfers you’ll encounter compared to the more popular and resort heavy northern atolls.
The reefs in this region offer some of the best waves you’re likely to find in the Maldives, and the surrounds, minus the heavy tourism, are nothing short of breathtaking.
There are waves in the Central Atolls to suit all abilities, from shallow reefs that offer transparent tropical tubes over vibrant coral, to fun set-ups that welcome some high-performance surfing or even a relaxed fun-board session.
The Central Atolls also offer waves on both the eastern and Western sides of the archipelago, which means that no matter what wind and swell combination, there’s bound to be a spot somewhere offering up waves.
The best time to hit the Central Atolls is from April to October when the Indian Ocean Swells born in large storms to the south roll into the Maldives, and the winds favourable.
This region itself is made up of four main atolls: Meemu, Thaa, Dhaalu and Laamu, and between them offer up over twenty waves for guests including:
Muli is a hollow and consistent right of high quality that races along a shallow reef. This wave is best suited for more advanced surfers and is to be avoided at lower tides.
Mikados is one of the real jewels of the Maldives. Mikados is essentially two waves – the outside section delivers a fast right of reasonable quality. Perhaps its best attribute is that it picks up a lot of swell.
However, Inside Mikados is where the magic happens. On offer is a high-quality right that wraps its way into the most pristine tropical bay you could imagine. Offering beautiful blue bowls, a session here will be permanently etched into the memory banks.
A rare treat when the rare conditions it requires come together. Maliks is a rifling lefthander that offers endless walls and tubes and it rivals, possibly betters, anything you’d find to the north.
As you may have guessed, this spot didn’t get its name by accident. Machines is mechanically perfect and hollow right that offer perhaps the best waves in the Maldives when it’s firing. Machines is the spot that will get your barrel quota heading in the right direction.
Ying Yangs is probably the most reliable wave in the Central Atolls. A mellow but punchy right that offers riders tasty high-performance walls as the wave runs down the reef.
Dhaalu is one of the Central Atolls that is still somewhat shrouded in mystery and secrecy. There are waves here of very high quality, but for the moment they shall remain nameless. Book your charter late in the window (October or even November) you’re your chance to experience it for yourself.
Guiding you on your journey and ensuring you’re on the best waves possible is Atoll Jade’s guide Zante. One of the Maldives top surfers, Zante is happy to extend his considerable knowledge to guests in order to maximize their surfing experience while aboard.
One of unique selling points of a charter onboard Atoll Jade is the step up in spacious accommodation compared to similar charter boats available in the Maldives.
Atoll Jade offers guests 10 air-conditioned double and twin suites, all with their own ensuite with hot showers. Suites also offer full size windows that allow you to drink in passing Maldivian beauty and Indian Ocean at all times.
On the rare occasion, you’re not enjoying the waves of the Central Atoll, Atoll Jade offers three large deck areas to chill in – whether you’re taking breakfast while checking the waves, a spot of lunch between sessions or enjoying a drink at sundown.
If you need to retreat from the sun, Atoll Jade also offers a comfortable TV room where you can relax in air-conditioned comfort, read a book from the library or put a movie on.
The top deck is also a great place to get some solitude, relax in a hammock or hoot your mates as they take on the waves.
Another great feature of Atoll Jade is the onboard desalination plant capable of keeping up to 12 guests fully hydrated for a month!
